It helps to say which iPhone (and watch) you have, your iOS version, and what you tapped just before the problem.

Questions

How do I move to a new phone?

Serious Reps keeps your data on your phone and leaves it out of normal iPhone backups, so a new phone set up from a device backup starts Serious Reps empty. Use Serious Reps' own iCloud backup instead:

  1. On your old phone, open Settings › Backup & privacy, turn on Back up to iCloud and tap Back up now.
  2. On your new phone, sign in to the same Apple Account, install Serious Reps and open Settings › Backup & privacy.
  3. Tap Restore from iCloud…. You'll see the date and device of the backup before anything is replaced.

What moves: your plan, profile, workouts, food, check-ins, walks and routes, coach conversations, your journal (if Include journal is on) and period days (if Include cycle days is on).

What doesn't move:

How do I delete my data?

There are three options, depending on what you want gone:

Workouts, protein and weight that Serious Reps saved to Apple Health belong to Health. Delete them in the Health app. More detail is in the privacy policy.

How do I connect Apple Health, or change what Serious Reps can see?

Serious Reps never asks for Health access when it opens. To connect, go to Settings › Health › Connect Apple Health, or tap Fill from Health in the wake-up check-in. Apple's permission screen lets you pick exactly what Serious Reps may read and write.

Serious Reps reads steps, sleep, weight, protein and workouts, and only ever suggests: nothing changes until you tap to accept. It saves the workouts you finish and the protein you log, and your weight only if you turn on Save weight from check-ins. You can turn saving off in the same place.

To change permissions later, open the Health app, tap your picture, then Privacy › Apps › Serious Reps. (You can also get there from the iPhone Settings app under Privacy & Security › Health.)

How does the camera count my reps?

During a workout, turn your phone sideways and prop it up. Serious Reps switches to the gym-floor view, with big numbers you can read from two metres, and the whole screen is the button. On a lift the camera can follow, a Watch my reps button appears in the corner during a set (not during rest).

The camera can follow squats, Romanian deadlifts, split squats, push-ups, overhead presses, rows, pulldowns and lateral raises. It doesn't count lifts done lying down, under a table or in a machine that hides you. For those, log reps on the dial.

Tips:

At the end of a set Serious Reps offers its count, and never changes your reps without asking. Frames are read on your phone and never saved unless you tap Record a clip. The counter is new: check its number, and tell us when it gets one wrong.

What does LiDAR measuring need?

An iPhone with a LiDAR scanner: the Pro and Pro Max models since iPhone 12 Pro. On those phones you'll see Measure in cm while Serious Reps watches a set (it uses the rear camera, so the screen faces away), and Estimate with the camera under Measure › Weight, neck & hip, which estimates your waist and hip from depth. Ask a friend to hold the phone or prop it up.

Depth readings are estimates: expect a few centimetres either way. The tape measure is still the number that counts, and works on every phone.

How do I use Serious Reps on Apple Watch?

The watch app comes with the iPhone app. If it isn't on your watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, find Serious Reps under Available Apps and tap Install. It needs watchOS 11 or later and your iPhone nearby.

Start a workout on your phone and the watch shows the exercise, set and target. It runs a strength workout, so it keeps reading your heart rate with your wrist down. It counts reps from your wrist's motion; confirm the number with the Digital Crown and the set is logged on your phone. Between sets, a rest ring says ready when your planned rest is up, or a little sooner if your heart rate has settled.

The wrist counter reads curls, lateral raises, triceps extensions and pullovers from the watch's tilt, and presses, rows and pulldowns from its movement. Squats, hinges and hip thrusts are worth a try, but check the number. Push-ups, leg press, bridges and core work are counted by hand. Calibrate rep counter on the watch fits the counter to three slow, full reps of your own.

What can I say to Siri?

These work with Siri, in the Shortcuts app and on the Action Button. Logging works even with your phone locked; Serious Reps takes it in the next time you open it.

To put Start workout on the Action Button, open the iPhone Settings app, choose Action Button › Shortcut and pick Serious Reps.

Where are squads?

Squads are small, invite-only groups for training with friends: tap Squad along the top of the home screen. They're optional, and nothing is shared until you join one. To join you'll need an email and password; you can block people and report posts, and you can delete your account and everything you shared from Settings › Account.

Is the coach sending my questions somewhere?

No. The coach runs on your phone. On a phone with Apple Intelligence turned on it uses Apple's on-device model, and each reply says On this phone. Otherwise the built-in Learn chapters answer, and the reply says From Learn. It never reads your journal, photos or period days.

Are the numbers accurate?

Body fat, strength age, projections and camera measurements are estimates, and Serious Reps labels them that way. Your waist on a tape measure and your lifts going up are the best signs of progress. Serious Reps gives general fitness guidance, not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before starting if you have a health condition, are pregnant, or have a history of disordered eating.
